Bentleigh's Original Barber

The first Barber Club, opened on Centre Rd in 2006. Five classically trained barbers, precision fades, sculpted beards and the hot-towel ritual we built our name on.

From The Chair

Unedited Google reviews from Centre Rd. We reply to every one, even the rare four-stars.

Best barbers in Melbourne. If you want a top cut with top service by top barbers, this is the place. Without fail, every visit.

Andrew K.

Walked past for years, finally went in for a beard tidy before a wedding. They took the time to actually shape it properly. Booked the cut and shave package the next month.

Where It All Started

Two decades on one strip of Centre Rd. What opened as a single shopfront in 2006 set the standard every Barber Club has worked to since.

  • The Original Shop

Bentleigh was the first Barber Club, opened on Centre Rd in 2006. Classically trained barbers, the same hands every visit, and a finish that holds for four weeks. The standard set in this room is the standard at every shop that followed.

  • A Bentleigh Local

A village strip wrapped around a train station, where the same families have walked the same footpaths for generations. We know their fades, their wedding cuts, and their boys' first haircuts.

Five On The Floor

Meet The Barbers

Five barbers on the Bentleigh floor, led by founder Alex Tabakman. Same hands every visit, and you can ask for your barber by name when you book.

On The Shelf

We Finish With Jukes

Every cut here is finished with Jukes, a Melbourne-made grooming range built for barber work rather than a bathroom cabinet. Your barber will tell you which one your hair actually wants, and it is on the shelf on your way out. Nothing is sold at the counter that we don't use in the chair.

  • Matte Clay

    Styling

Firm hold, no shine. The one for a textured crop or a fade that has to hold its shape through the day.

  • Texture Paste

    Styling

Medium hold with a natural finish. Separates and lifts the top without setting it hard.

  • Shine Paste

    Styling

Light hold and a low gloss. For slick backs, side parts and anything that should look combed rather than worked.

  • Texture Sea Salt Spray

    Prep

Worked through damp hair before you style, for grip and volume. The base the rest of it sits on.

  • Beard Oil

    Beard

Softens the beard and settles the skin underneath it. All-natural formula, worked in daily after a shower.

  • Beard Balm

    Beard

Conditions and holds at once. Tames the strays and keeps the line your barber shaped.

Ask your barber what suits your hair before you buy anything. If nothing on the shelf is right for you, they will say so.

Booking, timings, parking and walk-ins. Anything else, give the Centre Rd shop a call direct. We answer the phone.

The floor at The Barber Club Bentleigh looking out to Centre Rd
Do I need to book or can I walk in?
Both. We hold walk-in spots until 4pm Monday to Saturday, but Fridays and Saturdays book out by mid-week. Booking online guarantees your barber and your time.
Can I request the same barber every visit?
Yes. Select your preferred barber when booking online. They'll keep notes on your last cut so you don't have to brief the same fade twice.
How long does an appointment take?
A Buzz Cut is 15 minutes, a Fade / Style Cut 30, and a Re-Style 45. Cut and beard together runs 45 minutes, and a Hot Towel Shave is 30. We don't double-book. The time you book is the time you get.
Do you cut kids' hair at the Bentleigh shop?
Yes. Boys 1 to 12 at $57, or $62 on a Saturday. Tuesday to Thursday afternoons are the quietest and best for first-timers.
